The Mid-Atlantic Patient Safety Organization (Mid-Atlantic PSO) is a component of the Maryland Patient Safety Center, Inc. The Maryland Patient Safety Center (MPSC) is the parent organization of the component Mid-Atlantic PSO. The Mid-Atlantic PSO is a means of furthering the ability of its member healthcare providers to provide the safest, highest quality care to their patients. The Mid-Atlantic PSO is a center of patient safety innovation, convening providers of care to accelerate our understanding of, and implement evidence-based solutions for, preventing avoidable harm. The Mid-Atlantic PSO is listed as a Patient Safety Organization, or PSO, with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) (PSO Number P0024). Through a non-punitive reporting environment, a culture of safety is encouraged for the participating healthcare provider. Information specific to the Mid-Atlantic PSO’s quality initiatives will be reported, aggregated, and analyzed. Recommendations for best practices, and workflow processes related to the Mid-Atlantic PSO Initiatives, are disseminated by the Mid-Atlantic PSO in an effort to minimize patient risk and improve the quality of care.
The Mid-Atlantic PSO strives to reduce patient safety events in the healthcare provider setting by focusing on specific quality and safety initiatives, which include adverse medical event / near miss reporting system and Safe Tables, as well as other selected initiatives
The healthcare providers who report to the Mid-Atlantic PSO will receive recommendations on best practices and workflow processes specific to the Mid-Atlantic PSO Initiatives to help enhance patient safety and health outcomes. These healthcare providers can promote the fact that they participate with a PSO so their patients know their healthcare provider aims to be among the safest in the nation.
